WHERE SOGNE FJORD COMES ASHORE...

In 1861 Jens Klingenberg Prestegård opened the inn, which eventually became the present Klingenberg Hotel. "Big Jens", as he was known, was a talented innkeeper and mountain guide. The guests themselves were mostly mountaineers and hikers who came to explore the Utla Valley and Jotunheim National Park. We are very proud of our roots and alive to their presence every day. The personalities that shaped the hotel's history are honoured in a hall of fame in the common areas. Jan Schwarzott has added to the heritage spirit in pictures that bring nature and history into the rooms and At Klingenberg Hotel the fjord and mountains are close by, both outside and inside, and the house lives in harmony with all the diversity of its natural surroundings. Given that the hotel was originally built to the dictates of Mother Nature, we have striven to accentuate this interplay by allowing the building to ally itself with the landscape's own contours and patterns. The west facade of the building thus rises as a wave to bid Sogne Fjord welcome ashore.

William Cecil Slingsby (1849-19299). British mountaineer and trekker, and one of the many well-known persons to pay frequent visits to the hotel in the late 19th century.
